Wicked black humor, Fake cinema verite'. Nice camera move. Genuine surprise.
"Boom!" did a great job of matching the continuity of the root clip and introducing a little dark humor to the mix. Getting "run over by a car" is always a welcome twist to any short film. Nice job!

Ouch!
HAHAHAHA!!!!!! That was hilarious!! Didn't see that comin 10 times better than the other two!! I'll be adding on to the 3rd chapter so I'll probably base the script off of yours. The other two dont stand a chance.
It is pretty short...
I wouldn't say the others don't stand a chance, you never know what might happen.
Legnth may be the problem as to the rules but to me time is precious and this team has pulled out a great addition to the story in only a little over 30 seconds
should have kept the girl, lost one of the guys.
I'd think the girl will still be in the story, just hurt, slowing down the getaway and making for a more interesting story.
I appluade you joshutk. But if KillerRobotNinja comes back and makes a submission then your in for a heck of time. He's good. It cold be hard for you to win against him. But we'll see. I heard he's going to use a Bacon strip with googly eyes and tazmainian devil looney toon sounds. That would get the publics vote but that would lose my vote. Even though I know who he is. Some what. So good luck. I look forward to writing a submission after yours.
Don't worry ... he'd add a hot alien chick and some Hollywood visual effects and make it good.
I dont know....... Hell be goin to that convention with Mr. Moore sooo IDK. And Im sure a he would have submitted it earlyer.
The girl doesn't have to be dead..
In a comedy she would get back up..maybe she's paralyzed? It's whatever the next group would choose I guess.
This was a good effort and I didn't see anywhere in the rules that said it couldn't be short.
Is that Andrew Kramer's car hit tutorial i see? Great job, guys!
I'm not playing this round, just enjoying everyone's stuff.
She's a robot!!!
@KRN haha, it's not as intricate as the bullet tutorial.. I guess you could say it's a pretty basic version of the Kramer tutorial, minus the broken glass and crunched hood.
Where might one be able to view these tutorials?
oh wow that is awesome! i definetly hope this wins. i would be looking foreward to continuing the story.
the acting was pretty good, and the effects were great!\
good job
Hahahahaha that was amazing! That came out of nowhere! Boom! was the sound of me falling out of bed laughing.
Badass
I thought it would be nice to eat a bowl of cereal while watching this new clip, little did I know that my ceral today would not only be going in mouth but also out my nose. Milk burns my naval cavities, thanks josh.
@jaytaylorthe1: I didn't know you were in the Navy ...
"videocopilot.net" has a ton of cool after effects tutorials
Hey everyone. Id like for you all not to just vote for this one becuase of the effects. Thats not what makes a good movie. Just attracts the public attention. I'd Like to redirect you to "Hazard" by fiercedeityys. It is a very well done film. Wonderful cinematography and a very capturing story. Check it out.
Oh wait never mind changed my mind. Vote for this one. The other one doesn't fit. Vote for this one. I did after all.
Hey everyone. I'd like for you all to vote for whatever video you want. I feel your all educated enough to make your own decisions. While they clearly used special effects it still does advance the story in an interesting way and I commend the effort.
@joshutk You guys have my vote.
I like it cause it carries the story, and has a great climax.
Really digging the POV with the explosion. I gotta get me an After Effects for these car-hits... :<
ME too. But I hire a graphics person I know. He's not that bad. But he's got expensive taste.
@Davidmoon
How can you tell this is a climax yet? It probably isnt
I should say cliffhanger ... which is part of the rules.
I'm really liking the percentage of votes over the number of votes. Good going RootClippers!
Great job guys (and girl). It was a tight vote for me... I went with "Hazard" for now, but I may have to retract it and move it to yours. Still thinking about that one. My only qualm with yours was the length, but with the story you told I guess it didn't have to be any longer.
You may get my vote yet, I still have a few days to decide.
Well, uh, this is a little short. Sure, we find out that a nuke has exploded, and Rachel has randomly been hit by a car, but ehhhhhh.
Getting hit by a car is pushing it a little, but I think it leaves it open to interpretation more than the rest.
@rains_g Thanks bud. We wanted to make it to where we would have something like a hazmat van pull up and throw them in the truck and end it like that but no one had a van or chemical looking suits
@ (the others) We didn't want to put a deep meaning to the very beginning of the story where in my opinion your still basically setting up the story.
But either way you look at it both videos have something going for them.
Hey Vote for Hazard. That one makes sense know. CH. 1 blacks out at the end and then Ch. 2 blacks back into the story several hours later.
wheres that old man whos usually in your movies
haha.. getting some sun I thought
Hey Rockstar lets let the comment board for BOOM stay the comment board for BOOM. Don't spam other peoples boards.
@ Nate, the Hazmat truck idea would have been cool. I'm hoping yours wins, it'll be easiest to build off for next round (rather than someone bound up in some weird setup)
UHHHH stay out
This just killed the blond...Now KRN can't use his wife in his future entry..That sucks...it was nice but 1 of the dudes should of got it...and maybe a lil longer....nuclear explosion...then maybe a cloud of black chemical smoke....and maybe some people on the floor.....gasping for cleaqn air..and these 3 or two characters running for cover.....lol
haha! chill out rockstar. you're setting yourself up for some brutal criticisms when you submit. be nice.
Rockstar, the point of a comment board is to comment on someones video, not advertise the other peoples videos. Don't tell people who to vote for, let them watch and decide for themselves. So how about you stop flip flopping on which video your supporting, and leave comments relating to this video. And we'd all appreciate it a little if you'd put some thought into your comments.
And KRN, are you planning on making any submissions for this story, or are you happy enough with your last two winnings?
JakusB.
I can do as I please. If I want to attract people to "Hazard" I can. I can tell you're friends with the director of this film. So calm down. It's okay if you lose. "Hazard" is catching up. I would be worried too. You win some you lose some. Oh well. Be a good sport. Leave me to my business.
KRN How Am I being mean. I'm telling the truth and helping other filmer's through constructive criticism. I haven't put anyone done. I may have said "your movie sucks" but I see my errors and regret them. So wat am I doing wrong?
:<
Uh, to tell the truth, I think people are less likely to vote for another entry if they're being asked to. Just like being sold something instead of liking it and choosing to get it.
Probably the best comments are the ones that don't compare videos against one another, but rather stick to pointing out strengths and weaknesses about the film in question. NOW you're criticizing constructively!
And, as we already established elsewhere, April could have survived that hit. ._. It'll be up to the next round entrants to decide how she fares.
Actually, no, I'm not in anyway related to the director of this film or anyone involved in it. If you weren't so ignorant, you may have noticed that I make constructive comments on almost everyones film, including Hazard. I actually think its a very good film, I've never said anything against it. My only problem is you spamming peoples comment boards with "Vote for this, vote for that". Let the viewers decide. Its great if you think a video is good, but don't tell people how to vote. I'm not saying everyone should vote for boom, nor am I saying everyone should vote for any other film. All I'm asking is to leave constructive comments, not idiotic ones...
Everyone shouldn't forget that this is going to the judges as well. Now while everyone seems to be pulling to get the video they want voted for, half of the vote will be from the judges. This round will be a good round to see what the judges are really looking for. I hope they offer some criticism and explanation behind their votes in order to offer insight to what type of video they prefer.
And Fungus don't worry our votes will taper off, you won't really see us with a late surge like many in the previous chapters.
A side note- I do like the voter history
Hey just trying to better my self and my possible script for Ch. 3. Maybe I see something in "Hazard" that could better my film's story, possibly. More votes for a certain film could change the minds of the jugdes.
Wow this one is really well done. I love the contrast and the acting is really good too. I like how you have decided to eliminate the girl. Adds more spice to the story. Makes it more difficult for other filmers to decide how they could have her back in the story or who was in the car and who ran her over and also what important role she plays in the story.
Hey ROCKSTAR!!!!!!!!!!!! Dude long time no see. Havn't seen you in ages man. Still use that production name hu? SO old bro. You haven't caused any trouble here have you?............ O wait too late..... Dude chill! LOL!!! Sorry everyone he's the next Simon for film making i guess. HAHA thanks for pointing that out Eric!
NJ, no worries. Everybody's votes should taper off, and then we'll all just wait for the other 50% to trickle in. Your camera's got nice color! Or did you have to work some post-prod magic to punch them out a little?
Rockstar, that's a legitimate (and sneaky) consideration in voting! Unfortunately, planning too far ahead is almost impossible, since literally anything can happen (zombies, mobsters, the Prince of Persia, ...amusicalnumber...) to the story. Kind of unnerving, but also convenient if the plot takes a turn for the worst. :P
And good observation, Powerchord! I just rewatched this entry and suddenly was wondering myself who exactly was driving the car, and why they'd run right over April... This would DEFINITELY have to come into play in Chapter 3. o_o
It's KRN's wife, of course ... June O'Neal: the jealous twin sister in April O'Neal.
Ya know who actually ran over April O'Neal? It was Ryan Brown. How's that for a plot twist?
A little contrast in post always looks nice.
What happened to Rockstar? He seemed to be dominating these boards, now he's gone and Powerchord seems to have taken over.
No, it was Joe Votero from th last Rootclip - "Hey, dirtbag!"
Go, Boom, go!!!
"Hey Dirtbag"(s)
What are the Jugdes going to be looking for in these submissions? This one seems a bit short. Are the Jugdes going to consider the time.
@David
I feel you are the really bad comic relief of these chat boards.
No hard feelings though. I just dont think your that funny. No hard feelings though XD
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHa. FINALY!
I'm not trying to be funny.
Oh well... It seems like it. If I ofended you I'm sorry. It just typed out wrong. (LOL)
You've typed lots of stuff out wrong. (LOL!)
I have a theory: I think Rockstar and Powerchord are the same person!
@jerrycommahello: I'd buy that. Same username formatting, same 'tragic highschool movie buff' attitude, same poor spelling and grammar, same level of arrogance, and the same inane desire to spam the comments.
Praxis, you're my new favorite person ever.
I have my suspicions also.
What!!!!!!??????!!!!!!!! What are you guys even talking about!!! I'm sure Rockstar would do something like that but I'm not even in cahoots with that guy. Just here to show my stuff and have fun filming. It also helps with story telling skills so thats where I saw my chance for some helpful training to become a better film maker. And sense when have I spammed someone else's film?
I can't get through the misspellings and bad use of punctuation. Show your stuff, I'm interested to see it.
Yes I will gladly show my skills. I think I'v got a pretty good idea of how I could fallow up on either of the two leading submissions.
@jerry Haha...I tried to allude to that in an earlier comment.
My theory is he didn't really like his image through "Rockstar" and decided he should come off a little better with another name.
"They're both" saying they will be submitting for the next round, so we'll see.
It wasn't 75% someone stumbling around which makes it much better than the other two leading videos. But hey, when do story and plot twists ever beat out cinematography and overturned horse carriages?
This one was my favorite, although it looks like you guys threw it together in just a few hours, save for the effects. I went back and watched "Trunked" as well, and thought it should have taken that round.
I'd be interested to see what you can do with a several days worth of production, the skill is evident, but your video seems like it was rushed.
Oooch...But very cool and easy to build from! IT HAS MY VOTE
Congrats to this one! The new scoring system worked out well.
The fifth judge will be the tipping point. Even if we lose I'm extremely satisfied with how well we did, and I'm confident we could step up our game in future rounds.
Thanks to everyone who voted; for us or not :-)
Agreed; the new scoring system keeps everything in check, but still offers significant incentive for gathering voters' support.
Either way, this Rootclip's off to a good start. :)
This is too exciting! I think everyone has put in an admirable effort.
Congrats!
@Owen - You hit it right on the head. It was kind of a last minute decision to make one. There was not a whole lot of pre-production. For "Trunked," we wrote a semi-script the day before.
The judge vote definitely makes this fun.
Well, shucks!
Looks like you guys came out on top. And by the popular vote margin! Can't get much narrower than that!
Congratulations on being the first winning team of Close Encounter! Hopefully we'll keep up our A-game and see you guys in Round 6. ;)
Again, both of you should be proud. It was a squeaker.
OK, truthfully ... how many of you had deposits down on farm equipment rentals?
I'd already looked into using a friends barn.
I really did come right down to it. I wonder what Rootclip would do in a dead tie? Looking forward to seeing your future submissions, guys. Hazard was really good.
Happy to give everyone a pre-production scare. ;)
I did check up Rootclip's offical rules about a complete tie, and the answer was a little vague. The sponsor gets to pick the winner if all scores come out even. Whether that means they flip a coin or extend the deadline or even ask judges for a revote (or just flat out eeny-meeny one themselves), I'm not really sure. Could be interesting if it ever comes down to it, though.
