This video needs to win this round. Really. It's so much better than anything else posted in the previous rounds.

I don't know, the whole "Force Field / Energy Gun Suitcase" thing just seems so overdone lately.

This totally blows away my shadow puppet entry I was going to submit ...

it's funny you should say that. I've seriously been considering just randomly replacing one of the characters with a dinosaur hand puppet, in costume.

haha, thanks... right before i rendered out the final edited movie, i was like "it would be really cool if her eyes glowed green at the end". Scifi is great to work an at 3 in the morning, cuz you're a little loopy already, just roll with it.

As always, super entry, KRN! I'm so excited each time you showcase a new effect for us! The energy shot from the briefcase, and following aerial body hit, were amazing! Did you accomplish that digitally, or did you have to shoot the actual body-hit practically (i.e. with wires...?) Regardless, it came out very nicely and quite believable!

I do wish this cliff-hanger was placed earlier in the contest, though I understand that the story directions made it previously impossible. At this point, I think most potential cliff-hangers are going to force substantial exposition with limited time to share. I guess that's part of the unfortunate nature of the game... :<

Anyway, awesome job once again and beautiful, stylish entry like always!

I came up with a fairly simple idea to make it look like brant got blasted backwards. I put him in front of the GS with a table right behind him, so he goes from standing normally to sitting back on the table and rolling onto his back.

so I keyed out the green normally and had do manually rotoscope the small area where the table supported him. effects planning is getting fun.

and as far as the cliffhanger being too late, I know exactly how I want to end it. I have a pretty ambitous idea, but if we can pull it off it could be awesome!

HA! Good luck killerrobotninja. When I submit my master peice into the sixth chapter it will blow all of you away. It has a twist like no other. I admit this one you did is pretty good with effects, shot angle/positions, and contrast but I know that the story I just wrote is going to surpass all the films on Rootclip combined. Along with my acting and directing. Good Luck...

how did you write a finale when this chapter hasn't been decided yet?

This one has the best storyline. The other one looks really nice, but is too long and confusing.
If RockstarProductions hasn't won a previous chapter... you can't compete in the final one. Only previous chapter winners can compete in the final chapter (see the about page's faq).

Good clip because there is some actual plot development here. Past clips have been so focus on showing off what type of videos effects editors are capable of that plot has been incidental. Great job! PS, Wow, that hitman at the end was really hunky! Thought I saw him on America's Got Talent ...

Congrats on the win! I'm excited to see what you'll put together for Chapter 6. We've been watching and brainstorming how to move on from your cliffhanger, and the options are pretty overwhelming! Of course, only you know where it was really meant to go, but seeing three other potentially different directions should be exciting, too.

Hey one quick question KRN. What did you use to do the effects. After Affects or Motion. I have a effects guy that uses After Affects. But i never use effects becuase I mostly write Dramas and suspenses. Oh and congrats on the Win. Enjoy that $500 ; D

After Effects and Cinema 4d all the way. I'd love to delve into Motion or Shake, though.

Wow That was Sick! For a second I thought you were going to pull out the same old matrix bullet sequence, but no. Force field- I like it. The acting and effects were both very well done and believable. I even like the style (the mise en sce'ne) Very stylistic for an entry on rootclip. No offense to rootclip or anoyone else but hopefully krn didn't spend millions on this =) Anyhoo, I've liked pretty much everything you've submitted since the first one I saw which involved ( I believe) animation and a lamp or something. Great work, definately getting my vote.

OOOps, I guess I'm too late to vote. I must have been thrown off when I saw no judges opinions. What's with that? Seriously, none of the judges here at rootclip thought this clip was worthy of a win? Ok, I got it figured out. In my haste to see the new rootclip chapter I clicked on an old story not the new one. This explains why There are no judges, becuase there weren't any! Haha. So I guess I should lay off the moonshine or put down the crackpipe or just pay more attention to what I'm doing and rejoin the present! Hahaha. Anyway atleast I got to catch up on last round, the last two chapters that I never saw and my comments from the future should be amusing to anyone else taking a trip down memory lane.
